CASSANDRA MCKEEN
I'm Walking to End LUPUS.
For the third year in a row, I am participating in this VITAL event to raise money for the disease that has changed and reshaped my life.
One year ago in Janurary, I was living with so much pain that I was going from bed to chair & back to bed. I could not walk without limping. Today, after a year of physical therapy and warm water therapy, I can not only walk without a limp (most of the time), but am back to being able to do most household "chores". I am very grateful for this!
Two years ago in March, due to Lupus, I was forced to quit my job as Nurse Tech at a local hospital that I loved SO much. Taking care of others in a hospital setting was my passion. I miss it, and all my former coworkers, EVERY SINGLE DAY. I am now resigned to the fact that I will not be able to go back due to Lupus.
For those of you that don't know, this disease caused me to have 5 miscarriages. LUPUS is so hard to diagnose, we didn't figure out the losses were due to LUPUS until after I had the 5th one. HOWEVER, now I have my Miracle Maggie who is 9 years old. Until all the losses, we didn't realize what a medical miracle my first son John was!
Please consider supporting me in my effort to raise money not only to learn more about the mystery disease that is Lupus, but to also find new treatments for it that are less caustic to the body (like chemotherapy) and to someday find a cure. Donating is easy, just follow the link.
Finally, if you'd like to join my team, Lupus Moms, and help raise awareness and money for Lupus, registration is free, there are no minimum fundraising requirements, and I would LOVE to have a group walking with me along Chicago's beautiful skyline in May!
Thank you so much for everyone's kind words and support. I can't even describe how much it means to me.
